Sustainable Development:
OMAR has mobilized target communities through involving community leaders and local Shuras (councils). The above helps in identifying community volunteers to attend three day workshop on mine awareness.
About four hundred key community volunteers who are already involved in teaching and communication with groups of community people will be selected for a three-day workshop on mine awareness education. Imams, teachers, and other community leaders including senior ladies seems to be the appropriate candidates for this purpose. They will receive a nominal compensation for their time during the three-day workshop. By completion of the workshop, they will integrate mine awareness education to their routine teaching and communications. As a follow up measure, every three months a supervision team will hold refresher training for the community volunteers. This way mine awareness education activities will sustain even after OMAR’s mine awareness education activities withdraw from the area.
Long-term Objectives:
- to set up a follow up and supervision mechanism for the community volunteers to remain as sustainable educators in their communities.
to integrate mine awareness and health education to local schools curricula and mosque Imams’ routine Islamic education.
To develop and establish health clinics in rural areas to reduce the number of mortality and morbidity.
